John Woodley
1970's International Racer

Riding your bikes was a real blast from the past for me because my first bike was a Triumph 3TA (1958 model) which I owned in 1969/70. My hearts desire at that time was a 1970 Bonneville, which I did not manage to buy because they had all been sold by the time I sold the 3TA.

The combination of beautiful winding roads and great scenery make these machines perfect for enjoying both, at speeds up to the legal limit. One could travel faster because the machines are so nimble and light compared to modern sports bikes - but the essential elements of the experience might be lost.

I was in heaven at 60 miles per hour on both the Tiger 750 and Bonneville 750 that I rode during our run - which saw the 5 of us cover some 200 miles for the day which included a nice lunch, visits to a winery, experiencing the Crown Range, Queenstown, Arrowtown and the Cromwell gorge, returning to Lake Hawea.

At this time of life it seems less important to get from one point to another as quickly as possible and the appreciation for other aspects of motorcycling becomes important. These are the social aspects of motorcycling; enjoying your hospitality and the scenery, which in your part of the world is breathtaking.

Thank you both for a tremendous time while we were in Wanaka and Lake Hawea and I would have to say the hospitality was second to none.
